Sorry, for some reason my posting automatically forwards some people to buy.com...not sure why.

But I also read, in the one of the sflan docs, that these off the shelf access points don't work, because each vendor has it's own proprietory protocols. Is this true?

I've looked over a few of these things. If you are using an access point you should make sure it allows for 'client-mode'.

As for me, it looks like I'm going to link in with a wet11 and a 24db parabolic dish. The WET11 will be connected to the WAN port of another linksys router, which will perform NAT. Then, I'm going to configure our local squid proxy to know about that alternate gateway and see how it goes. Eventually I'll figure out how to buy/lease the latest IOS and install it on this used cisco 4500 I have lying in my garage.
